The 100 Happy Days Challenge - 3 Things I've Learned So Far by Hilary

For the past month or so, I've been participating in the 100 Happy Days Challenge.
Some of you have probably seen my posts on Facebook - and several people have asked me things like "What's the deal with that?"
So, here's the deal: The 100 Happy Days Challenge challenges you to take a photo each day representing something that made you happy. The premise is that in today's busy world so many of us forget to focus on what makes us happy. You can read more about it here:
You guys, it's been so much fun!

I consider myself a pretty happy person, overall. But the truth is that I've been feeling pretty overwhelmed lately. I've been very busy with work, haven't had as much time to work out as I'd like, and it seems like stuff keeps going wrong with the house (right now, both our washing machine and our oven are broken - I know, first-world problems).
Anyway, a few of my friends had completed the 100 Happy Days Challenge, and when another friend, Laura, began it and invited others to join her, I was inspired!
So every day for the past 33 or so days, I've been posting a photo of something that makes me happy.
You can see the Album on Facebook here:

Here's what I've learned so far!
1. When you focus on what makes you happy, you notice more of it! As I mentioned, I'm generally a happy person. Over the past month, though, I've spent a bit more energy thinking about what makes me happy each day. I think, "This is making me happy! Should I post a picture of THIS?" several times each day. I'm consciously happy several times each day - whereas before, these moments would come and go without conscious thought.
2. I've got lots of things to be happy about! Of course, I knew this. I have supportive parents, a wonderful loving husbands, and healthy kiddos. But when you have to choose a single "happy" thing to post about, you realize there are so many things to choose from each day! Maybe it's how cute your daughter looks when she uses her fork to spear her toast and holds it above her head like an umbrella. Maybe it's how sweet your sons are when they decide to wear matching outfits for the first day of school. Or how amazing your husband is when you have no food in the house and he cooks a gourmet dinner. See? Three things in one day. Just pick one!

3. Happiness is a choice. You know this, right? It's true - you can choose to be happy. Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you choose to respond. The more you think about things that make you happy, the happier you are - and the more often you choose happiness. Of course, stuff still happens that drives you crazy. Like your dog eats your welcome mat or your kid dumps an entire bowl of cereal on the floor. But when you're looking for stuff to be happy about, these drive-you-crazy things don't seem so big.

I've still got 2 more months to go - and I'm looking forward to it!
